Situated at the intersection of media studies, history of science, and postcolonial theory, Théo Lepage-Richer's work broadly attends to the history, material culture, and social context of artificial intelligence (AI). His current project more specifically aims to locate the emergence of AI’s current form within the Canadian state’s Cold War experiments in communication and extraction. Reading the Government of Canada’s attempts to connect the country politically alongside its efforts to technologically control its vast and varied territory, it advances an environmental reading of AI’s mobilization as a political technology.
