This summer, the U.S. Department of Energy released a report that casts doubt on the severity of climate change, while the Environmental Protection Agency proposed rescinding key emissions regulations. In response, Cobb and fellow climate experts from across the country have banded together to “set the record straight” on climate science. Read highlights from the cohort's campaign below.
Media highlights: IBES Director, 80+ scientists respond to federal climate report
IBES Director Kim Cobb is one of dozens of scientists working to counter the Trump administration's efforts to weaken pollution regulations.
Scientists launch coordinated response to Trump’s attempt to wipe credible climate research off the record
“The fact that this administration has buried the gold standard for climate science — the National Climate Assessments — while lifting up a report filled with misrepresentations and half-truths is a grim historical marker,” Cobb commented for CNN.
Climate Experts’ Review of the DOE Climate Working Group Report
Cobb is co-author of a recent rebuttal to the Department of Energy's July 23 report.
“All of the issues raised in that report have been...thoroughly debunked again and again”
Cobb appeared on CNN to defend modern climate science and assert that attempts to undermine it will harm all Americans, regardless of political party.

Cobb testified during the EPA’s public hearing on its proposed rule to rescind the 2009 Endangerment Finding — which established that greenhouse gases in the atmosphere endanger public health and welfare — and greenhouse gas vehicle standards in the U.S. “The EPA has a responsibility to regulate greenhouse gas emissions for what they are: a clear, present, and growing threat to the health and wellbeing of every American,” Cobb said.
Scientists slam Trump administration’s climate report as a ‘mockery’
“It is really important that climate scientists stand up and be active stewards of their science in the public sphere,” Cobb noted in TIME. “It's our responsibility to the world, to taxpayers, to the next generations. That's what we are charged with doing. And this may be the most important moment where we are called to do that.”
Dozens of scientists call DOE climate report ‘fundamentally incorrect’
“Science is a tool for prosperity and safety,” Cobb told Inside Climate News. “And when you turn your back on it in general...that will have grave costs.”
