About the IBES Catalyst Research Awards
These annual awards provide funding for faculty-led, solutions-driven environmental research that crosses disciplines and has the potential for meaningful societal impact.
Working with environmental justice organizations, students will contribute to projects addressing water pollution, flooding, legacy contamination, and environmental health—participating in everything from research design and data analysis to public communication. Projects will include developing bilingual materials about local water, soil, and air-quality research and analyzing long-term watershed data to help community organizations better understand flooding, stormwater runoff, and water quality.
Some of the most meaningful research questions come from the communities experiencing environmental challenges firsthand. This project gives students the opportunity to learn alongside community partners while producing research and tools that can be genuinely useful here in Providence.
*This award is supported by IBES' Student Transformative Engagement Pathways program.
