Nelsy Reyes joins the Institute at Brown for Environment and Society (IBES) after six years at the Eastern Gateway Community College Student Resource Center. There, she served as an academic advisor, offered enrollment services, and honed the skills she developed while providing administrative support to the Special Olympics and serving as an AmeriCorps VISTA Leader.
In her new position at IBES, Reyes will assist Academic Program Manager Jeanne Loewenstein in supporting and growing Brown’s Environmental Studies and Sciences program.
“We’re very excited to have Nelsy join our staff,” Loewenstein said. “Her empathetic nature, experience advising students, and time working with AmeriCorps make her well-suited to support our undergraduates and the IBES community as a whole.”
Reyes will also help bolster IBES’ new Alumni & Family Network and expand the opportunities that IBES provides for undergraduate professional development.
“I am looking forward to promoting IBES’ academic vision, as well as connecting with the community at large in ways that are impactful and meaningful to everyone involved,” Reyes remarked. “In this role, I envision celebrating contributions of community members and strengthening the networks needed to create a just, sustainable future.”
Reyes assumed her new position on January 30 and can be reached at nelsy_reyes@brown.edu.
