Christina Virgo joins the Institute at Brown for Environment & Society as Associate Director of Administration and Finance, with more than 15 years of leadership experience in management, strategic planning, financial stewardship, and project oversight. Most recently, Virgo served as Senior Director of Operations at the Windreich Department of Artificial Intelligence & Human Health at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
“Christina brings a tremendous wealth of expertise to this position,” said IBES Director of Strategic Operations Katie Silberman. “Her professional background and experience ideally complement IBES’s strengths and needs, and we look forward to her contribution to achieving IBES’s goals.”
Since joining the team, Virgo has begun overseeing the Institute's finances, academic programs administration, faculty affairs, sponsored research administration, HR operations, and building facilities. She will work with a variety of cross-campus partners—including 10 academic units, the Provost’s Office, the Division of Research, and the Office of Information Technology—to execute on IBES’s mission.
“I am especially energized by IBES’s interdisciplinary approach,” Virgo noted. “I look forward to building systems and relationships that foster collaboration and ensure IBES continues to be an engine of real-world impact.”
Virgo also remarked that her new position aligns not only with her professional experience, but with some of her core principles.
“Throughout my career, I’ve been dedicated to advancing inclusive practices and fostering cultures rooted in accountability and innovation,” she said. “IBES’s strong commitment to equity and public engagement aligns seamlessly with both my values and my operational strengths, making this role a natural and meaningful fit.”
