Institute at Brown for Environment and Society

Christina M. Virgo serves as Associate Director of Administration and Finance at the Institute at Brown for Environment and Society (IBES). In this role, she leads financial strategy, budget planning, faculty affairs, human resources, research administration, and daily operations in support of IBES’s interdisciplinary mission to address today’s most pressing climate and sustainability challenges.  

Christina brings more than 15 years of leadership experience in operations, strategic planning, and fiscal stewardship in complex academic and research settings. Before joining Brown, she held senior leadership roles at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where she built operational infrastructures, managed multimillion-dollar budgets, oversaw sponsored research portfolios, and cultivated partnerships across institutions and internationally.

She is dedicated to fostering inclusive, collaborative environments where faculty, staff, and students can thrive. By aligning resources with mission priorities, she helps advance research and education that generate actionable solutions to today’s most pressing environmental challenges.
