Graduate student Sarah Cooley was granted the Outstanding Student Paper Award at the December 2017 meeting of the American Geophysical Union in New Orleans.
Cooley received the award after presenting her paper, Tracking fine-scale seasonal evolution of surface water extent in Central Alaska and the Canadian Shield, in collaboration with IBES sabbatical visitor Laurence C. Smith.
Cooley's paper demonstrates the usefulness of CubeSat satellite imagery for tracking changes in surface water at high latitudes, a critical benchmark for assessing environmental sensitivity to climate change.
Congratulations, Sarah!
