Andrea Mason studies the paleoclimate and paleoenvironmental history of tropical Africa during the Quaternary. Using organic geochemical proxies in lake and marine sediment cores, she reconstructs land and sea surface temperatures, rainfall, fire frequency, and vegetation change. Her research is critical to understanding the relationship between climate and ecosystem changes through geological history in the tropics.
