Biography
Cyril's research focuses on migration and social development in contexts of crisis, including "natural" disasters and climate change, as well as civil war. His dissertation asks under what conditions international remittances from migrants can improve access to clean water, sanitation, and nutritional foods in Guatemala. Among other things, the project investigates the causal influence of flood and drought risks, the Guatemalan state in environmental governance, and the actions of civil society in at once securing clean water and nutritious food and holding the state accountable for environmental negligence.
