Institute at Brown for Environment and Society

My PhD research is focused on the history of environmental science in the South Caucasus, from its roots in imperial science to its Soviet and post-Soviet iterations. I intend to study the intellectual and material history of collective and institutional practices of environmental observation, data collection and knowledge production. I am especially interested in the accumulation of "environmental data" and the way different scientific projets incorporate, repurpose and reevaluate it.
