My dissertation focuses largely on the intersection between classic fairy tales and the Anthropocene. Using methodologies from environmental studies, I analyze fairy tales with the goal of showing how 21st-century discourses were already thematizing relationships between the human and the non-human world. Uncovering these ways of relating to the non-human, I argue, are ways of showing that the focus on the environment precedes the impending ecological disaster, while also providing novel ways of reading fairy tales for the new generations.
