Biography

Yu-Cheng Shih is an environmental historian working on modern China and East Asia more generally, with specific topics in riverine dynamics, wetland ecologies, shoreline societies, migrants, and environmental refugees. Besides inland water changes, his interests further extend to Cold War maritime environments, and their effects on East Asia. Yu-Cheng also pursues studies as a cultural anthropologist regarding the religious identities across contemporary China and Taiwan, exploring how these belief practices were intertwined with natural surroundings in local communities.
