Dov Sax and colleagues are assessing species extinction risks, evaluating species’ capacity to adapt on their own, and evaluating alternative conservation approaches for safeguarding these species. This work spans from tropical cloud forest habitats to species in communities in California, the Midwest and New England.

This will occur because many species can only tolerate particular climate conditions, those conditions will no longer exist where those species are currently found, and many species will be blocked from shifting their geographic distribution by highways, urban sprawl and agricultural landscapes.
