Jared NirenbergĀ uses organic molecules in deep marine sediment cores to understand how ocean environments changed in the geologic past. Currently, Jared is working on reconstructing high-latitude sea surface temperatures during the Middle Miocene Epoch, about 15 million years ago when Earth's climate was much warmer than today. This past warm climate serves as a potential analogue for future climate change due to anthropogenic warming.
