Biography

Katie Phelps is a senior from Minneapolis, MN concentrating in Environmental Science on the Land, Water and Food Security track. During her time at Brown, Katie was a member of the Women’s Swim and Dive team for two years. As a junior, she wanted to explore more of what Brown had to offer and has since enjoyed getting involved in a variety of clubs, including chess club, Arts 4 Service, club swim, and Girl Gains @ Brown. Katie loves spending time outdoors, especially in Estes Park, Colorado, and around Providence, where she enjoys walking along Blackstone Boulevard, identifying trees in Swan Point Cemetery, and biking to Colt State Park. Recently, she led a backpacking trip in the Northern Presidentials of the White Mountains with Brown Outdoor Leadership Training (BOLT). Throughout her college experience, Katie has held internships at a nature center in Minneapolis, worked for Brown’s Pre-College Program, worked as a CC for first year buildings, and contributed to urban forestry and urban agriculture efforts with Groundwork RI. Looking ahead, she is passionate about urban agriculture and expanding community access to fresh food. Katie is incredibly grateful for the guidance of her peer advisors at Brown and is excited to support the next generation of students.
