I am interested in the environmental impacts of extractive colonialism and capitalism in Andean South America. Over several centuries, the Potosi silver trade contributed to environmental degradation, both at mining sites as well as through the construction a wider network of extractive infrastructure. Communities in the Andean highlands continue to struggle with the environmentally damaging effects of mining in the present.
