Yesenia Valverde

Biography
Yesenia graduated from Brown University with an Sc.B. in Environmental Science (’17.5). At Brown, she received both a Voss Environmental Fellowship and a Royce Fellowship to quantify birds’ climate-induced range shifts in a tropical montane cloud forest. She has carried out various research projects in the forests of Costa Rica, Panama, Hawai’i, and as a Fulbright research fellow in Malaysian Borneo.
Yesenia is now a PhD student in the Department of Environmental Science, Policy, & Management at UC Berkeley. As an NSF GRFP and Chancellor’s Fellowship recipient, her work focuses on the sustainable management of tree cover in agricultural landscapes as a strategy to support rural livelihoods while enhancing ecosystem services.
